The Miracles of Jesus

in Christianity,History,Religion

Jesus was known as a miracle worker. Throughout the New Testament of the Bible are many instances where Jesus healed the sick, bent nature to His will, and even raised the dead. Are you familiar with the Miracles of Jesus?

The Miracles can be divided into five kinds:

Cures. Jesus cured a man of leprosy and a woman of significant bleeding. He brought down high fevers, cured blindness, and allowed the deaf to hear. Jesus also helped the lame to walk again. He did these things by the laying on of hands, or by the use of spit and mud to make a poultice that was then placed on the person. The words he used were also meaningful. Perhaps the most well-known of these miracles was the man who was healed of leprosy, then set about telling the rest of the world what had happened to him, despite Jesus’ request that the man not tell anyone.

Exorcisms. Jesus performed many exorcisms during his time on earth. He cast out demons from both men and women, including seven from Mary Magdalene.

Control Over Nature. Jesus had power over nature, and proved it several times with Miracles. He caused a wild storm to become immediately calm and walked on water to meet someone. The most well-known of the natural miracles might be the story of “water into wine.” When a wedding party ran out of wine, Jesus instructed the servants to fill the casks with water; upon tasting, it was declared the best wine ever served.

Another well-known natural miracle is the feeding of the thousands with a loaf of bread and a few fish. Jesus made the food last long enough to feed thousands of men, women and children, and there was enough food left over to fill several baskets.

Raising of the Dead. Jesus rose from the dead after three days – but before his own death, he made others rise from the dead as well. The most popular story is that of Lazarus, who was risen from the dead after four days on the command of Jesus to rise up.

Supernatural Knowledge. Some believe that Jesus had the power to see things that were not meant to be seen, such as the past and the future of those around him. The best example of this is the Samaritan woman at the well, about whom Jesus seems to know everything – but no one ever told him those details.

Though Supernatural Knowledge might not be classified as a miracle by some, it is in keeping with the unusual happenings around Jesus at the time, and so should be considered at least a potential miracle as well.
