Miracles of Jesus: The Woman at the Well

in Questions & Answers

The Miracle of the Woman at the Well is one of the most popular miracle of Jesus. It is an example of Supernatural Knowledge. Here is the story:

At the Samarian town of Sychar, Jesus takes a rest at Jacob’s Well. While his disciples are in town getting food, a woman comes to the well. Jesus asks her for a drink, but she is surprised…she tells him that Jews and Samaritans don’t mingle.

Jesus tells her that if she had known who he really was, she would have asked for some of the water he was offering. He explains that the water he provides means a person will never thirst again, and will have eternal life. The woman is intrigued and asks for the water, but Jesus tells her to go find her husband and bring him back with her.

She tells Jesus she has no husband, to which Jesus replies with the truth: She has five husbands, and in fact, she is now living with a sixth man who is not her husband. Jesus could not have known this about a perfect stranger without some kind of supernatural knowledge about her life, and the woman immediately recognizes this. She believes he is a Miracle prophet.

Jesus then ministers to her and teaches her about worshipping God, explaining that the time is coming when true worship will be at hand. The woman then says that the Messiah will come and explain it all, to which Jesus replies, “I am the Messiah.”

In the end, the woman tells the townspeople what Jesus said, and they invite him to stay for a few days and teach. By the time he is done, the town of Sychar believes in the teachings.

The Miracle of the Woman at the Well is one of the first time Jesus makes his Supernatural Knowledge known, and it leads a whole town to understand the Will and Word of God.
