Young children learn best through hands on activities. After telling the story of Noah’s Ark, end the lesson with a yummy snack that reinforces the story. Children can “act out” the story with their snack foods. Here is what you will need:
* Pita bread
* Peanut butter (be sure to find out if there are any allergies – butter works too!)
* Jam or jelly
* Animal crackers
* Wooden craft sticks or plastic knives
* Blue paper plates
Give the children a piece of pita bread, and have them use a craft stick to cut it in half. If you are working with older children, plastic knives will work, but be sure to monitor them closely to make sure they are being safe.
The halves of the pita bread are the “arks.” Carefully open them and use the craft sticks to spread the peanut butter inside. Then, give the children pairs of animals from the animal crackers. They will have fun identifying the animals as you do this. Have them put the animals inside their homemade “arks.” Then, let them “sail” their arks on the water (blue paper plates). They may even want to parade their animals two-by-two into the ark. Let them play and have fun! They are learning as they do!
As you do the lesson, reinforce with the children the story of Noah’s ark and the way Noah obeyed God, in spite of people making fun of him. When you are done with the activity, let the kids eat their snack! (Idea adapted from Sunday School Crafts)
