Easter Story Eggs are a fun way to teach the Easter story. To set up this activity, get 12 Easter eggs and use a permanent marker to write the numbers 1 through 12 on them, one number on each egg. Then, fill the eggs with the following items:
Egg 1 – A leaf – A reminder of the Triumphal Entry. (Matthew 21:1-11)
Egg 2 – A piece of bread – A reminder of the Last Supper (Matthew 26:17-19)
Egg 3 – Three dimes (real or plastic) – A reminder that Judas betrayed Jesus for just 30 pieces of silver. (Matthew 27:3)
Egg 4 – Thorn – A reminder of the crown of thorns (John 19:2)
Egg 5 – Scourge (or thick string) – A reminder that Jesus was beaten. (Mark 15:15)
Egg 6 – Cross (Popsicle sticks or twigs in a cross shape) – A reminder of the crucifiion. (John 19:17-18a)
Egg 7 – Piece of cloth – A reminder of the Jews parting Jesus’ garment. (John 19:23)
Egg 8 – Nail – A reminder that Jesus was nailed to the cross. (John 19 and 20)
Egg 9 – Sponge – A reminder that Jesus was given vinegar and wine on sponge to drink. (Matthew 27)
Egg 10 – Rock – A reminder that the stone was rolled away from the tomb! (John 20:1)
Egg 11 – Napkin – A reminder that all that was left in the tomb was Jesus’ burial clothes and the napkin that covered His face. (John 20:6-7)
Egg 12 – A flower – A reminder that Jesus offers us new life by conquering death. If a fresh flower is not available, use a silk one.
Hide the eggs around the room, and then have the children find them. Open them in order as you tell the Easter story.
